Contrast Agent Medication I: Iopromide

Time:2025-02-17 Views:23
Iopromide is a tri-iodinated, non-ionic, water-soluble X-ray contrast agent widely used in the field of medical imaging diagnostics. It enhances the imaging effects of devices like X-rays and CT scans, helping doctors accurately identify blood vessels, organs, and pathological structures. It is mainly used for angiographic examinations in fields such as the cardiovascular and nervous systems.

Similar to water molecules, iopromide has good permeability between tissues and can freely diffuse into cells. It is not metabolized in the human body and does not produce any active substances. Like other iodine-containing contrast agents, it can be administered via intravenous injection, allowing it to reach all organs through blood circulation. This enhances the penetration differences of X-rays through tissues, improving image contrast. Additionally, iopromide is chemically and physically stable in the human body and has minimal interactions with other drugs.

Iopromide was first approved for marketing in the United Kingdom in October 1992 and entered the Chinese market in 2005. In February 2023, the first domestic iopromide injection, developed by Starry  Pharma, was approved for marketing.

The development of iopromide formulations has expanded its applications in areas such as tumor immunotherapy and minimally invasive surgery. With the advancement of medical technology and the increasing demand for imaging diagnostics, the global market size of iopromide continues to grow.
