    Paroxetine hydrochloride has antidepressant properties and is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine reuptake inhibitor. The mechanism of action of paroxetine hydrochloride is to increase the concentration of 5-H in the synaptic gap and enhance central 5-hydroxytryptaminergic neural function. It only weakly inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine, and has little affinity for muscarinic receptors adrenergic a1, a2, and β-receptors, dopamine 2 receptor (D2), 5-hydroxytryptamine 1 and 2 receptors (5-HT1, 5-HT2), and histamine H1 receptor. No inhibitory effect on monoamine oxidase.
